Recommended Gearing By Tire Size
Gear ratio suggestions are based on mixed highway and off-road usage. Please contact a Currie representative at (714) 528-6957 if you have any questions.
*Currie does not recommend using 38" and larger tires with the factory front unit bearings or with rear semi-float axles.
The Currie HD60 rear axle for 2007 thru 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK/JKU is the perfect upgrade for off-road enthusiasts or overlanders seeking enhanced strength and durability. The HD60 rear features our massively reinforced 60-series center section, large 3.5-inch diameter axle tubes, and 40-spline axles, greatly upgrading strength and reliability beyond the stock Wrangle rear axle assembly. Additionally, the HD60 retains a factory wheel bolt pattern so that you can keep those nice wheels.
The Currie LP60 low-pinion rear axle for the 2007 and newer Wrangler JK/JKU is a direct bolt-in axle assembly with all required brackets and mounts in place. The vehicle's factory brakes will be retained and installed on the new HD60 axle. The factory driveshaft will require modification or replacement to accommodate the larger 60-series housing and 1350-series u-joint.
Designed and optimized using computer simulation, the HD60 is reinforced in critical areas with thicker walls and heavier webbing to deliver maximum strength, durability, and rigidity
Gear diameter equals strength - the HD60's 9.75" gear (right) provides greater torque and load handling capacity when compared to the stock 8.66" gear (left)
Large 3.5 in. diameter .375 wall axle tubes (left) are more than 3x the strength of the stock tubes (right) without being overweight or sacrificing ground clearance
40-spline chromoly semi-floating axles (right) are 1.5x the strength of 35-spline axles and are more than 2.5x the strength of the stock JT axle (left)
Massive Set 80 axle bearings (right) have a greater load-carrying capacity and enable increased axle diameter through the bearing for greater strength and durability compared to the stock rear axle's Set 10 bearings (left)
Axles feature the factory 5x5 wheel bolt pattern so that you can keep those nice wheels
The upgraded 1350 pinion yoke provides increased strength and reliability over the failure-prone factory CV Joint
Currie heavy-duty laser cut brackets provide increased strength and maintain compatibility with stock and aftermarket suspension components
Currie rock-proof nodular iron cover protects expensive internals and adds structural support to the housing's face flange
UV Stable Satin black powder coat finish adds long-lasting protection against rust and corrosion to keep your Currie HD60 looking its best
Notes
ABS Sensors- The stock axle must be retained and installed on the Currie housing
Driveshaft- A replacement driveshaft compatible with the larger 60 housing and 1350 yoke is required. Spicer PN10113217is recommended (verify manufacturer vehicle fitment)
Brake Components -Retains the stock rear disk brake rotors or calipers; mounting brackets are designed to reuse the stock factory brake components from the vehicle.
Wheel and Tire Size- 17-inch or larger wheels are required for proper clearance of the brake calipers. The maximum recommended tire size is 39 inches for semi-floating axles.
High-performance full-synthetic 75W-140, GL-5 gear oil designed specifically for the requirements of 4x4 Jeeps and trucks. Currie 4x4 Performance Gear Oil provides maximum shear stability and extreme pressure protection with a superior inhibitor package that protects against rust, corrosion and foaming.
Protect the underside of your HD60 rear axle from sharp rocks with a Currie skid plate. The skid plate is designed to provide full coverage while maintaining maximum ground clearance. It is constructed from formed and welded 3/16-inch steel.
